I'm sure you have had people say things, that are, empty statements, sometimes, they ask you questions, and don't even stop for an answer, i.e., "how are you?" Why do they bother? Or when you are walking down the street, and you may smile and nod, or even say, 'hello,' why, is it such an effort to get a response? Is it that people just don't care? Or what about when, someone hurts you, and they say they are sorry. How many times, do they have to hurt you, and say they are sorry, before you start questioning the worth and value of those words? Is it taken for granted? Who is taking it for granted? Them? They are just pushing the envelope, letting the broom fly. We are the ones letting them get away with it, yaya. Time to dig in those heels and put a price tag on those words.
That old theory of treating others the way you want to expect to be treated, maybe old, but is not such a bad idea. Reversing roles seem like an easy spell, that may be fun for some, but others may not favor. A little taste of your own medicine, dearie. And dare I push that envelope, and question that, 'I love you,' at the end of those phone calls? Is it a quick exchange of words? Do they know what they are saying? Maybe that's why the divorce rate is so high. When you say it, mean it, really say from the heart. Think those words out slowly, don't just throw those words at someone like Halloween candy. Say whatever it is with true heartfelt feelings, forget the empty words. Make someones day matter, without a single spell.
Frankly my dear, idle chatter is a bore, thanks but don't bother me, I've got things to do, spells to work, potions to mix, brooms to charge, and loved ones to be with, need I go on?
I live in N.Y. and I am a witch, and I have four sisters that are witches. Now don't get all spooked out about this, we are really friendly, nice girls. We do not cast spells on people carelessly, we offer friendly advice when asked. This blog is about our days and we want to hear about yours. We will offer advice and our wisdom on a range of subjects. I hope you enjoy it. I believe anyone can be a witch.

Easter Sunday
Well, since it is "Holy Week," and I did address Passover, you didn't think I was going to let Easter slip by, now did you? Traditions, traditions, I'm sure you all have quite a few, from coloring eggs with children and your Grammy, to great Easter Egg Hunts, that may or may not end up in tears over who collected the most eggs, or a few bruised knees, but then there could be the stress over do we really have to prepare the sacred lamb for the Easter meal? And as schools schedule spring break over the Easter Holiday, for convenience, the holiday looses a bit of its relevance as there are less and less of us at the family table. And then there is the Church issue, what happened to the traditional Easter Outfit? The dress, the Easter hat, those new shoes, you just had to have, your brother even had to have new clothes, yaya, what a waste. If you went to the Easter Vigil last night, or to Sunday Mass this morning, you may have spotted a few still dressed to the nines, but my bet is, most Peeps will be more like sixes, or fives. I suppose, in reality, it's not so important what you're wearing, it's what in your soul. Your soul isn't into designer stuff, but lets face it, it doesn't hurt to look nice for your mom and dad, when you're sitting at their table. But it seems like everything ends up being an eggstravaganza these days, even the annual Easter Egg Roll at the White House, this year is hosting some six thousand children, and turning into an aerobic session.
Now back to the celebration. I suppose what you do, and where you celebrate the holiday is almost irrelevant as long as you are with the people you love. I once attended a mass at the top of a mountain, and it was absolutely delightful and spiritually moving, quite a feat for me. I'm not saying the traditional church is not the place you should go to worship your God, there are some of us who will only find comfort there on Sundays and Holidays, and there are times in most of our lives, when we need to find that comfort in the walls of our faith. If you believe in your faith, keep to your traditions, you can experience peace, joy, and a resurrected soul this Easter Season where ever you choose. Stay close to those you love, those that love you, need you most, and those that got your back. Keep to those traditions that have been past down, make new ones that are good for you and yours, and always remember to make your heart happy. If you light an Easter candle tonight at your dinner table, and think for one second you made your family's day happy, listen carefully, there is singing from above...
And you deserve to be flying high, xoxo

Holy Week, Traditions
Seems like this is a big travel week, so-called, "Spring Break," for lots of schools, many families, and college students headed south for warm weather, and getting a jump on summer tans, oh la la, yaya, mon cherie. However, many may loose sight, that it is a Holy Week, Monday night was the first night of Passover, and Thursday will begin the preparation for the Easter Holidays. Although I really do not consider myself a very religious person, I do consider myself one who may find comfort in tradition and spirituality. Evolution perhaps, but the stories of Bethlehem, Moses parting the Sea, freed slaves walking with unleavened bread on their backs, those are stories that made history and traditions.
At Passover a story is read, same story every year, no matter how times you may have heard it, they read it again, it is part of the Seder. Children are always involved, it is called the Haggadah; the story of the Exodus, how God helped the children of Israel escape slavery. The Seder asks the formal question, "Why is this night different than all others?" The answer, referring back to ancient times, "because we are slaves." The Haggadah, the book is not the key to the Passover meal, it is how the story it is treated as the tradition year after year. And that is where its power lies.
Strong traditions are carried forward in strong families...

Daydream Believing
Daydreaming, separating facts from my imagination, some type of reasonization in my mind, you like that? I just came up with it. I spread it out. I lay the cards out, the tarot cards. I lay them out in my head, spreading them out, like a hand of solitaire, and then draw out the cards in the deck, and take them as they come. Reasonization, yaya, conclusion, in the end, so not just daydreaming of a beautiful evening, catching a steady flight with the girls, no, nada, way more productive, finding answers, that are tucked away, not too deep in my mind. I can multi task, daydream and drive, daydream and fly, daydream and run, pretty remarkable, when my attention span for much else is about a ten, out of a hundred. But daydreaming takes you into that other dimension, sort of like a twilight zone, and again, I'm not a silly witch, it does take you into your own little safe place, and it's ok. It is like meditation, or have you ever been hypnotized? Or maybe you are a runner, have you ever experienced a runners high? Oh that adrenaline rush, can be sort of wicked, you know? An altered state of consciousness, how about that? Without a spot of magic, I may be out of business soon if I keep blogging. Flying, on a broom that is, there's the magic, that will keep this blog going. Actually, dear Fiona brought up an excellent fact the other day, did you know? Witches fly like birds, because of we have hollow bones, keeps us kind to the scale, too. Anyway, flying, is a great place to daydream, pretty safe too, I find myself doing it all the time, end up flying way past where I'm going, just like passing an exit on the Long Island Expressway, sky is not that clearly marked, although there are markers, just not great big green signs overhead, you have to watch below. It can be a little tricky, some witches end up broom sick. But on a beautiful day, or a cool evening with a light wind, the moon and stars within reach, it is so easy to give in to life, and take it all in at no cost. Breathe, let your mind open, let your inner thoughts wander, and reach deep into the corners to find thoughts, maybe you put away for a while.
As my blog reaches the one year mark, I, too am looking into the corners of my mind, there still is so much to discuss, and I'm still waiting to hear from you. So reach in, and don't be so afraid, I'm just a witch, I promise I won't bite.
Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly
Birds fly over the rainbow
Why, oh why can't I? Judy Garland
You can, click your heels two times. Anything is possible, if you believe...

Opportunity Knocking
Every now and then your door bell rings, well, some of us, have way more visitors than others, or there may just be that strong, quick, knock at our door. It drives my little pups crazy, they are like the chuck wagon, racing around the bend, practically on their side to beat each other to the door. I know, sometimes, you don't want to be bothered, answering the door, if your like me, I have the most annoying mailman, rings the bell, drops the mail, sets the dogs off, and leaves, why, oh why, does he have to ring my bell? Just drop the mail. What about the UPS guy? Most of the time he does the same, rings the bell, and leaves he package. My little guys get all worked up in a furry, I rush to the door, for a brown box, ugh! On some rare occasions, he will wait in need for a signature, in witch case, the dogs get an outdoor view, and I keep my fingers crossed it is my favorite UPS delivery guy, and yaya, I love when they wear their shorts! Spring is here, yeah!
But yaya, back to the knocking, I am referring to real knocking on your door, and not just cute guys or girls with deliveries. I'm thinking about opportunity knocking on your door, it may not come too often, but when it does, you better be there to open it. If it is a love interest, you don't have to jump into to it, or jump on it, him, or her. Take it slow, if you want, and do what you want, you can listen to opinion, but is it your heart, believe me, time will tell. The same for business, look at your options, evaluate whats important for you, what you can and cannot do, and whats realistic, listen to opinions; if it falls within your safety zone, and/or within your risk field go for it. No matter who is knocking, they are there for a reason, there are no coincidences in life, everything has a purpose, so be cautious, who or what you let go by. A chance to take an extra class at school, volunteer your time, or spend time with your Grandmother, whatever, dearie, when you hear that knocking, you answer, it may not come back, and the crystal ball may not even be able to tell you where it is. I'm telling you this, because thinking back, I have let opportunities go, listened to, too many opinions, or was stubborn and didn't answer, but no worries, now I practically live with my door wide open, I close it just to keep that pesky mailman out. Most of my visitors don't use the door anyway these days.
If in the rare case, it is some pain in the neck, old beau, telemarketer or my mailman, that just will not take "no" for an answer, and you have tried being nice, more that five times, you got it, slam that door, good bye!
"Opportunity dances with those already on the dance floor." H. Jackson Brown, Jr. Best you get out there, yaya, meet you there, wear your party shoes...

L'incantesimo di ll"Malocchio"
Lately, I'm wondering if someone is watching me, I don't want to sound paranoid, but I keep waking up at night to that person, or should I say, presence, at my bedside, talking to me in the middle of the night. The discussion is always relevant about the pertinent things in my life, that I am constantly rolling around in my head all day long, so I must say, discussing them at length at night with this certain someone, who is really not voicing an opinion either way, is actually mind settling, if you can believe it.
But then the other night at Fiona's birthday, someone planted hazelnuts in the birthday cake, not a good gesture. I am allergic to nuts, Fiona said, the bakery promised there were "no nuts," and it looked ok, when they put it in the box, but, oh it was a different cake when they put it out on display on the table, who, oh, who could be the culprit? Have I let my guard down?
And its not just me, moi, lots of people, feel the pressure, from adults down to our little tikes, it's not witches, warlocks or ghosts, we may be a bit spooky, but not downright cruel, there is a difference. A presence may be helpful, or seeking their own answers, remember ghosts really can't hurt us, it is the living that can cause the most pain. Bullying is an earth shattering issue today. It is in almost every school, effects many businesses, and families. My little nephew had to change schools because he couldn't take the kids, they were down right mean, and he's no push over. So make sure you and your kids have your charms, amulets and Evil Eyes on, at all times, prevention is key.
You know, in the Middle Ages, people believed that witches used the Evil Eye to bewitch the judges, so they could get away without a hanging, and to curse the people who they were angry with, well excuse me, could you blame them? What I'm trying to say, is that the Evil Eye has frightened people, around the world, for centuries. It is basically a theory, it cannot be factual proven. Tradition says a witch need not be involved, almost anyone can give the Evil Eye. Its like shooting an arrow with your eyes, usually from a very envious sender. If the victim is not protected, sometimes the arrow hits them, and sometimes it misses. However, if the victim is protected, with a charm of somesort, the arrow has no chance, and may even come back and hit the sender, ouch! There are instances when it can be given by mistake, have you ever stared at someone, a little too long? Or maybe someone has gotten you, so steamed, you gave them that dead stare, and that was it, yaya, you may have given them the Evil Eye!
The Italians call it Malocchio. I have written other posts on this subject, but tonight, I'm giving you the cure for the Evil Eye, so if you're feeling exhausted and sick, having a bout of bad luck, and think maybe you have it, read on and take notes. First thing, you need is a bowl of water, Holy Water works best and some Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Add two to three drops of oil, and observe. If they form one circle, luck is on your side, if they stay three separate circles, oh dearie, Malocchio! A second method is using Holy Water in a glass with one drop of oil. If the oil floats, there is no evidence, if the oil sinks, then move on to finding a remedy, dearie.
To break the spell, no worries, you don't have to be a witch, don't panic, you can do this, relax, my friend. You will need two needles. Insert the top of one needle into the top of the other, repeat, depending on your Italian, "Occhie contro e peticelli agli occhi, crepa la invida e schiattono gli occhi." "Eyes against eyes and holes of the eyes, envy cracks and eyes burst." You may start to yawn as the spell begins to lift, drop the needles into the bowl thru the oil, sprinkle three pinches of sea salt into the bowl. Use scissors to mix the oil, water and salt three times and then cut the air above you three times. You have broken the spell. I give this to you, my followers, you may only pass it on to another family member on Christmas Eve for it to work.
Getting a bit much? Remember, anyone can be a witch or a warlock...deal with those bullies, show them who's boss.

Fiona's Birthday
Im sure you have heard the phrase, "be careful what you wish for," even Barabara Walters, has quoted it. Now if your a witch, you have to be extra careful, but all the more reason, you should sign on, and join the sisterhood, yaya, big time! Well, what does not seem very long ago, and we witches have a thing with time, we were celebrating my sister, Fiona's sixteenth birthday. Of course, it was a fantastic bash. I so remembered, her blowing out those candles, wondering what she could be wishing, my little sister. She was absolute perfection in my eyes, no matter what she did. Thirteen years between us, a bit ironic, unlucky never, the stars and the moon and every possible soul, witch, warlock, wizard, god, and goddess beckoned at her feet, right behind me, and the rest of the girls. As she blew out those candles, I made my own wish, to have a daughter just like her one day. Yippee!
Today is that same day, and I still see perfection in everything she does. She has her own daughter, now. Little Emmy, with the moon is her eyes, she can light up any night, a replica of her mom, for sure. Fiona's perfection goes way beyond her beauty, it reaches deep into her power which comes from within. Yaya, it could be in the genes, that doesn't mean, you don't have it. My mom, was true power, but its not just handed to you, or granted because your family, you have earn it, with your soul. It may cause a few wrinkles here and there, but don't sweat it, it is divine, divine power, that is.
So, Happy Birthday, Fiona, no worries, I've got the potion for a great year, not that you need it, just a little safety net. Drink the potion, and repeat three times, "Tiger, Tiger, burning bright, in the fire of the night..." You know the rest. Love You Search Amazon.com for barbara walters

It Only Gets Worse...
So today, I decided I have to come clean with you, my dear followers, I honestly thought Abagail would throw a tantrum if I told you, and a witch throwing a tantrum, can obviously be quite dangerous! Fortunately, for all of us, she is 'so over it,' today, that is. I'll fill you in.
Saturday, Abagail went to have her hair done, at Darren's. I'll spare you the a.k.a. since he is absolutely fabulous, performs magic, can even tame the witchiest mane, and everyone leaves his boudoir with a unique, but always individual coiffure, stunning no doubt. You must look him up, he is a character, a true artist. Granted, you have heard the quote, 'only my hairdresser knows for sure,' but with dear Darren, there are things that you only tell your hairdresser for sure. Get it? So Darren, asked Abagail, what she was doing that night, and she told him, she was going to a Sweet Sixteen, 'my mom is making me go, it's my cousins.' She goes on to tell him, its the night of the Junior Prom, and he asks her, 'you're not going?' Abagail tells him, she asked some guy and he said,'no.' Darren stops dead in his tracks, someone said,'No, to you? That's unheard of. Did you dead him?' 'No,' she answered, it wasn't until two weeks later, when he called to ask me out, then I let him have it.'
I tried to warn the dear, for weeks, she should go with someone else. There were quite a few cuties, she could have asked, but it was 'no, no, no.' My daughter, like all teenagers, has a head like a cauldron, cast iron. Saturday night, at the party, it hit her like a ton of bricks, total wicked witch melt down, Mama to the rescue.
Today, was a day off, no school, lots of school days ahead, she will go tomorrow. Today is a day for lunch out, maybe a kabbalah meeting. All I can say is, may the heavens and all the good witches help that poor guy, if he crosses her path again. For now, she is feeling better, but somehow, even without consulting the crystal ball, I get the feeling it is just temporary. Not too long ago, my brother gave me some advice with raising children, "It Only Gets Worse." We all need way more than magic to get through these years...

Dare to be Different
So, I go to the doctor the other day, no not the 'witch doctor,' silly, I get truly annoying migraines. The doctor thinks I'm a little 'spacey.' That's just my way, I hold a lot in, rarely let people know what I'm thinking, what I'm doing, or what I'm up to. Keep them at arms length, keep them guessing, or let them bust. Never reveal what is up my sleeve, what I may have brewing in my cauldron, or mixing for my next potion. I'm always listening, I may not say much, but I'm very observant. Tread lightly, be a bit mystical, weigh all the factors, and do what you feel is best when all is said and done. No, I'm not in my own little world, very far from it, believe me, I'm living on Main Street, USA.
My best friend was with me at the doctors office, she tells him, no worries, I'm sharp as a tack. I'm not sure if I like that statement, but then I Google it, and I come up with 'crackerjack, savvy, ace, and wizard.' I can live with those, especially, wizard, I like the idea of the blue cape. Maybe I do play a different drum, but I am still in the band. We cannot all be expected to fit into the same mold. I'm not exactly, one size fits all, you know? Between my hat, my boots, and my broom, I'll never fit into any mold, but thats ok, aren't we all a little out there? Flying on our broom, once in a while? In a Blue Moon? Come on, be honest, you can't conform every day. Dare to be different, be a witch, a warlock or even a wizard. Are you afraid? That's silly, we are here when you need us, like a sister, join us.
Doctor is still working on the headaches, maybe I need a wizard remedy...Suggestions?
My best friend was with me at the doctors office, she tells him, no worries, I'm sharp as a tack. I'm not sure if I like that statement, but then I Google it, and I come up with 'crackerjack, savvy, ace, and wizard.' I can live with those, especially, wizard, I like the idea of the blue cape. Maybe I do play a different drum, but I am still in the band. We cannot all be expected to fit into the same mold. I'm not exactly, one size fits all, you know?
